Bruce Davison [ Dr. Nurse ] Hanlon clashes with a supervising doctor over admitting pro bono cases. Her patient, an Asian woman, may not be treated because of cultural superstitions we've only seen this a dozen times over the years. This is getting really old. Hope main characters are altruistic saints. Hanlon enjoys doing pro bono surgeries which angers mean hospital bigwigs. All the main characters recognize the evil bigwig for what he is.
It's so utterly predictable and insulting to the viewers. Anne Haney [ Mrs. Cliff Bass ], Joel Polis [ Dr. Stu A patient with Parkinson's disease slips into a coma during surgery. His mother believes God has blessed him and brings the elderly and irm to his bedside. Meanwhile, Jeffrey has qualms when a doctor researches human cloning. Stu A teenage boy who's been raised as a girl wants to have an operation to make him a 'real boy'.
Alberghetti tries to help an elderly woman with Alzheimer's. John Heath "Gray Matters" gs: Rose Weber, Gina Wilkes Keith becomes personally involved when a man has to choose to which child he'll donate a liver a plot we've seen before on this show. Jack is arrested when a grieving D. Rose Weber returns to the hospital, suffering from epilepsy.
Lou Antonio "Painful Cuts" gs: Meanwhile he's pressured by the hospital board to cut back financially. Peter Medak "Simon Sez" gs: Dot-Marie Jones [ Unknown ], W. Robert Berlinger "Devoted Attachment" gs: Vogt [ Unknown ], Louis Mustillo [ Det. McNeil's childhood mentor shows up in the ER with a gunshot wound in his behind.
Jerry Levine "Miller Time" gs: Miller uses his adaptable personality to simultaneously charm and alienate staffers. Alberghetti is outraged when Miller can't remember a torrid fling they had together. Michael Pressman "Thoughts of You" gs: Francesca bickers with Hugh. Jack is fed up when HMO policy refuses to let him perform a hip replacement.
This episode ends with a chilling and moving scene that from the previews, doesn't look to be followed up on in next week's episode.

Nurse ], Pinky Villasenor [ Nurse Elaine ] Hospital staff tests a radical new procedure, implanting a microchip that will enable a paralyzed man to function again, amidst rumors that the hospital will be sold yet again. Meanwhile, Gina is forced to undergo emergency surgery that brings her and Aaron closer together.
