She strikes you as a warm, nearly adorable woman. There is the soft and tender smile occasionally sprouting out of an always jolly face, accompanied with a mellow voice and friendliness.
Firstly, why and how did the idea of speed dating come about? I got the idea from a reality show I used to watch when I was in high school around senior five. At first, I let it go but when I started working three years ago, I realised I needed this speed dating. You realise the other part or aspect of you dies, I mean the social and to me speed dating was the thing.
I guess you then tried to look out for speed dating joints in the tabloids and social media…. So I made up my mind, told a couple of friends about it and they seemed not to understand what I was saying, then a couple more friends and another lady who appreciated the idea but down played my ability to pull it off. Trust me I partly did it to prove her wrong. So it was then an attempt to satisfy your own craving? How was the first event this year at Grand Imperial Hotel? I had friends who financially supported me and I really wanted it to be an experience people would come to again.
I had so many girls there and few men. They were meant to be 20 men but only 16 showed up so in total I had about 35 guests. I was forced to convinced people at the swimming pool to join us.
Of course, most of the clients are young men and women in their s, mostly your everyday working class, single Kampala youth. My mother was not a fan of the name but actually supported the idea. You see, social media focuses on your network, people you already know. So, ideally speed dating gets you out of your comfort zone to meet new people.
There is a whole world out there. Are there any incidents so far that stand out for you? Do you even get feedback? On the very first night an old girl and old boy met after several years. What or where is your satisfaction? It is so much.
What keeps me going is that this is a platform for me to grow in what I want to be an entrepreneur and I get to see and meet people from all walks of life. At the end of the day, someone is calling you to say thank you. People come for speed dating to get something different, it is just fun, sit in a serene setting, take tea and make friends.
